Summer Party and Fair weekend
A big thank you to all the parents that supported the recent Summer Party and Fair, and to all those who helped in any way.
Although ticket sales for the Summer Party on Friday night were a little disappointing, those that came all had a great time, with dancing into the small hours. Although we had to cancel Adam Glover, the support act, due to the lack of ticket sales, he came anyway, and volunteered his services for free, which was a sterling effort on his part. He treated us to a selection of some of what mostly could be called "The Great American Songbook". A quick whip-round on the night meant he didn't go home empty-handed, and one of his objectives of some promotion seemed to be successful - he certainly gave out a lot of cards! While he does work with various bands, as a solo singer with a backing track, he can provide music for smaller-scale events at a more affordable cost than a full band. See http://www.adam-glover.com. Following some memorable after-dinner music, the dance floor filled until the early hours for dancing to Party Siempre (http://www.partysiempre.com). There was even a Peugeot 207 Convertible to be won by throwing dice, unfortunately this was not won, but it meant that the competition could be continued at the Summer fair on the Sunday.
The weather continued to be kind for the Summer Fair on Sunday. There were a range of attractions, including the football competition, the opportunity to win the car, various performances by the school Concert Band, Choir and Rock Band, and the (all too rare) opportunity to relax in the sunshine with some refreshments. As well as a giant inflatable assault course that was very popular, Atlantic Star driving school were giving driving lessons on a circuit set up in the playground to any age that was tall enough! The lesson was based on safety and experience, not trying to find the next Jenson Button!!
The final reckoning of how much the events raised is still in progress, but despite the attendance on Friday night, we should still show a profit - watch this space and thank you again to all the helpers.
Lost Property. A black LG phone and a black Ipod with white headphones were found and have been handed in to the College secretaries office.
New Plans For College reviewed by A Dixon. (old boy)
Many Thanks to A Dixon, Chairman of St Ambrose Old Boys for the following information and review
The new St Ambrose...
Architecture practice Sheppard Robson is preparing to submit a planning application for the £20m St Ambrose Voluntary Aided College in Trafford for builders Balfour Beatty.
Sheppard Robson's design features a central area that includes the chapel, dining, social and assembly areas. Cantilevering platforms on the upper levels support staff areas, library and ICT areas. The central space is visible at all points within the school, and all teaching areas are accessed directly from this space, shelving the need for internal corridors.

The cost of the flight will be dependent on numbers but will be between £40-£60 (all insurance will be covered in this), the length of the flight will be 10-15 minutes. £10 of this charge goes to SAPA. If by any circumstances we are not able to fly then we operate the flights on another suitable day as we operate a "never-not-fly-you" policy. Finally the helicopter is an R44 helicopter with 4 seats (1 pilot and 3 passengers) Contact This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it |

Prep School and College Take delivery of New Equipment.
SAPA has recently been able to support both the Prep and the College with some new equipment. Mr Lochery has informed SAPA that new mats and a gym bar system have now been installed in the new hall. The Prep also received two large screen TV's and stands and some digital cameras for project work. The College has faired just as well, with the music department receiving a collection of new instruments. The collection ranged from a new drum kit, guitars and amps and a range of brass and woodwind instruments. The total investment by SAPA is nearly £11,000. Both Headmasters wished to thank all the parents for your continuing support.
Car Boot Sale's surprising success!Sunday's car boot looked set for a washout. At 5.00am, We woke to torrential rain. However, the big advantage that we have, is that even in the rain, we don't need to cancel as all our cars go on the tarmac and not the field. Soon the news filtered through to us that Timperley and Styal's car boot sales had been abandoned. This gave a few later entries. Eventually we achieved just under 50 boots, which is nearly 100 less than our capacity however after some heavy selling of Bacon Sandwiches and an appearance by the sun we still managed to achieve nearly £900 which is fantastic. Thanks to all the helpers including Sam Alford in the kitchen and the Heavy Gang for putting out the cones and parking all the cars at that unsociable time. New PA System for College & Prep School.SAPA recently delivered to the college a new £1700 PA and speaker system, complete with stands, radio mic' and a 'flight case' on wheels, to both protect and make it easy to transport between the College and the Prep School. For many years, both have limped along with old very tired equipment, (in fact your Chairman left the College in 1979 and the same speakers are on the wall in the College Hall in 2010!). I am sure that they both will get great use of them over the years. They were used for the first time by SAPA at the St Patrick's Quiz and Hooley on March 19th. SAPA present £20,000 to the PrepThe SAPA committee met in the College library as usual on Monday 6th July - all usual business was attended to, including agreeing a list of new dates for events between now and Christmas. As soon as we have researched that there are no clashes with other schools in the area we will formally announce them. SAPA email listsIf you're not already signed up, please consider joining our email lists. We have one for SAPA events, which should interest those with a child at on of the schools, and another specifically for the car boot sales. All emails sent give you the oppotunity to unsubscribe at any time, and it goes without saying, we won't pass your email address on to any third parties. St Patrick's Quiz & Hooley!Following on from last years phenomenally successful quiz, we decided to merge this years event with an Irish night for St Patrick's Day. There was a keen fought battle for the coveted trophy which was eventually won by "The EggHeads" a pub quiz team that really are going on the TV quiz show later in the year, so it was a serious practice for them. To make it slightly more interesting, we dropped the traditional raffle and had a mini game of the TV show 'Play your cards right' instead with your Chair playing the role of Brucie! People won cash, T shirts (sponsored by Guinness) and even Ambrose Umbrellas, good fun was had by all! The quiz was followed by a ceilidh band who had people's feet tapping and a few brave souls hit the dance floor and relived their youth. After all the costs, we made just under £1000 for SAPA. Once again, Thank you for your support. Christmas Fair makes £5400The final profit from the Christmas Fair was around £5400. This is up around 30% on the previous year - an excellent effort from all involved! Thanks to all who attended and those who helped in any way, to make the event such a success. An especially big thank you to Sam Alford who acted as the Manager of the event and to Lindsey Wordley and Andy (why he keeps helping I do not know, he doesnt even have boys at the school!) for all the catering. This is the first year that we had sponsorship and we would like to thank The Chill Factor e, Sainsburys and Sports Direct for their help. Finally to Mrs Mortimer, Head of Music at the college for all the carols, bands and talent she showcased. If your Company could help with products or cash for any of our events, please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Future Events ProgrammePlease can you forwards any suggestions for events that you would like to see SAPA organise? They do not need necessarily to be just fundraising, they could be social, networking, anything you think that will help the ethos and Catholic ideals of the Prep School and College.
